TOMSK, Aug 18 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radiotronics (TUSUR) study ability of light "to record" information in special crystals it will be a basis of future optical computer which will work quicker than electronic computers, the press service of the higher education institution reports.
"TUSUR scientists developed a technique of an optical recording of photon structures in a crystal allowing to control luminous bundles. Further it can be used in creation of element basis for processing and data transfer devices on the basis of optical technologies – optical computers", – it is told in the message.
It is
specified that the researchers found a method to record light signals in
lithium niobate crystal. These signals, passing through the crystal, turn into
optical canals (wave guides), which diameter is some micron. They allow to
direct light, that means they allow to direct transferred with it information
inside the crystal.
According
to the higher education institution, such crystals are similar to printed
circuit boards thanks to which there are processes in the computer and other
devices. But in photonics light particles – photons are responsible for
relocation of certain charged particles. Thus photon devices work quicker than
the electronic.
It is
emphasized that it was succeeded to receive result, having combined effects for
the first time, which was known earlier: light refractions in a crystal and
origin of an electric field in case of external impact on lithium niobate.
It is added
that now scientists developed the experimental installation, and in the end of
the year they plan to get the patent for this useful model.
