TOMSK, Oct 17 – RIA Tomsk. Paleontologists of Tomsk State University (TSU) plan to organize a number of expeditions across Siberia where, according to the assumption of scientists, it is possible to find some areas where dinosaurs lived longer than in other territories, is reported on the website of the higher education institution.
"In a river basin Chulym we opened a number of locations of dinosaurs’ fauna, but it is extremely difficult to reach it. Very serious preparation which demands not only technical equipment, but also a good physical form from its participants has to precede such expedition", – the press service of TSU quotes the head of the laboratory of continental ecosystems of the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic Sergey Leshchinsky.
It is noted that until recently search of ancient pangolins in the north of Asia was considered unpromising as their main locations are concentrated in China and Mongolia. However the excavation of paleontologists of TSU begun in 1995 in the territory of Kemerovo region disproved this belief.Scientists found the richest fauna of continental vertebrata of early chalk (the animals living about 100 million years ago) consisting of fishes, amphibious, mammals, birds and reptiles, dinosaurs among which remains the hardened bones of a titanosaurs, one of the largest pangolins ever living on Earth, were found.
According to the higher education institution, the Siberian areas of dwelling of dinosaurs generally are refugiuma that is the areas where types remained when in other places they already died out. Tomsk paleontologists together with foreign colleagues within the TSU scientific project assume to investigate them.
