TOMSK, Feb 15 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) are working on software which will allow the testing of vehicles on autopilot not in a city, but on the computer, project manager, the head of the optimizing control systems department of TPU Cybernetics Institute Maxim Ivanov told RIA Tomsk.
"Now to check up systems of unmanned vehicle after certain development level is possible only as a result of real tests, because it is one thing is to develop algorithms, and the another – to bring it into the real world. And we do not take the car in the world, we test it in the virtual environment", – he said.
Polytechnics are developing algorithms for processing large amounts of data, received from the unmanned vehicle sensors, and motion control system. Ivanov explained that as the result of the project it will be the system which, on the one hand, able to fully reproduce completely all actions of all systems of the unmanned car, on the other – will recreate all parametres of the real world."Are already developed a city part, pedestrians, other road users, the car itself, traffic lights", – specified the scientist.
The interviewee noted that such a system will allow to save both on production of advanced components, and on carrying out of field tests. Besides, virtual tests will allow to avoid dangers as for experienced car drivers, and for pedestrians and other motorists.
"At manufacturing of the prototype we will not have a set of trial models. We will have already optimally matched control algorithm, smoothly running mechanism", – specified Ivanov.
