TOMSK, Mar 14 – RIA Tomsk. The scientist of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Alexander Hamuhin received the patent for the method of forest fires detection; he suggested to use the sensors, capable to catch a sound of coming fire on a distance up to five kilometers, the press-service of the university informed on Monday.
It is specified that currently used sensors detect the increase in temperature and transmits a signal about the fire when the fire is already is in immediate proximity to them. Sensors proposed by Tomsk scientists, will be able to catch the sound of the fire much earlier, before the temperature starts to rise. It will give to field services more time to respond.
"I decided to combine both thermal and sound sensors. Because the fire is accompanied by various sounds. For example, during a ground fire the crash is audible, and swift crown fire extends with a rumble", – the press-service quoted Hamuhin words.
It is noted that the scientist has also developed the computer program which allows to carry out the spectral analysis of the fire sound. According to its intensity it is possible to draw conclusions about the fire area. Sensor design is simple: for its work is only necessary the microphone and elements for GPS-signal transmission in a single control center. It is added that now the scientist expects to win a grant on further researches which would help to carry out more serious analysis of fire sound. So, Hamuhin assumes that fire is accompanied by infrasounds, imperceptible to human hearing.
According to the press-service, now the scientist searches for partners for the further project realisation. Interest have already expressed in company "DSK" – the scientific organisation of innovative centre "Skolkovo", which develops and implements information system of forest monitoring.
