TOMSK, Jun 14 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) will finish until the end of 2018 the development of the first domestic flaw detector for check "from within" welded seams at construction of gas pipelines in the Arctic, the director of Institute of Non-Destructive Testing Valery Borikov reported RIA Tomsk.
Earlier it was reported that TPU scientists will create for "Gazprom" the new filmless flaw detector for quality check of welded seams on pipelines of the company which will be cheaper than analogs and will be able to work in the Arctic.
"It is about the creation of new system of radioscopic quality control of welded seams for gas-and oil pipelines. This system can be used at installation of pipes at a negative temperature to minus 50, it can be used also in the conditions of the Arctic – for example, on the Arctic shelf. Term is established – two years, until the end of 2018", – Borikov told.
He specified that there are no similar domestic devices now. The system allows to illuminate through welded seams due to the fact that in a pipe the special independent cart with a radiation source is put – for example, the x-ray device or the betatron. Radiation is fixed from outer side of the gas pipeline, at the expense of it there is a through image of a seam on which defects are visible."There is still a know-how – digital detectors are used, thereby we increase control speed. Earlier (in flaw detectors) the film was used: the device carried out shooting, the film was taken out, shown, watched. And now the operator is able in real time to monitor shooting and at once to see where there is a defect", – Borikov explained.
He added that polytechnicians develop system by the request of "Gazprom" for which they already created flaw detectors of other types. It is supposed that about 100 million rubles from TPU and "Gazprom" will be invested in the project.
