TOMSK, Sep 9 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) with the colleagues from the USA, Italy and Jamaica plan to develop the production technology of hydrogen for the restored batteries (fuel cells), the press service of the university reported. Such batteries will be useful for remote territories, e.g., Africa or the Arctic.
At the heart of the development – are the new materials created in TSU.
Hydrogen from powder
According to the invited professor of TSU, professor of New Jersey Institute of Technology (USA) Edward Dreizin, pure hydrogen and oxygen which can be received from air is necessary for creation of the restored batteries.
"They are already used, but there is a problem: where to get hydrogen? It's difficult and expensive to transport it. But if to use nanomaterials which made in TSU and LLC "Advanced Powder Technology" (Tomsk) reacting with water then it is possible to receive hydrogen directly on the place, – he told.
It is about nanodisperse powders which make scientists of the laboratories of high-energy and special materials TSU, using technology of electroexplosion. The nanoparticles developed in TSU allow to set necessary properties, and scope of the received nanomaterials is very wide: from space branch to medicine.Alternative energy sources
"These hydrogen batteries can be used in any remote, hard-to-reach spots where energy is necessary, but there is no opportunity to draw power lines. It is much easier to find water in such places, so, our technology will be demanded", – Dreizin is sure.
The project assumes full development of technology of the application of materials – from their optimization to preparation for introduction. It is planned that scientists from the USA, Italy and Jamaica will also be connected to work. Now collective looks for financing for implementation of the project.
According to professor Dreizin, hydrogen batteries are eco-friendly as they don't harm the environment unlike usual batteries.
