TOMSK, Jan 18 - RIA Tomsk, Karina Sapunova. Construction of the new generation reactor BREST-OD-300 will begin in late 2017 - early 2018, there is no case about postponement, the head of Siberian Chemical Plant (SCP, is included into fuel company of Rosatom TVEL) Sergey Tochilin told journalists on Wednesday, commenting on messages of some media on suspension of the project.
Earlier some media wrote that Rosatom allegedly suggested to waive construction plans of the BREST-300 reactor within the project "Proryv" because of an economic situation in the Russian Federation. Rosatom specified that the state corporation doesn't plan to stop construction, and initiated updating of the project. It will allow to lower capital expenditure of the federal target program (FTP) "Nuclear power technologies of new generation for 2010-2015 and for the future till 2020".
"It seems to me, someone invented the word "freeze". <…> Due to optimization which was reached on the module on the reactor, it is necessary to legalize the new sums now. Also it is necessary to synchronize terms that it hasn't turned out that something one was constructed, and it stands (unclaimed)", – said Tochilin at a press conference in the media center RIA Tomsk.
He explained that initially construction cost BREST was estimated almost at 60 billion rubles, and after optimization it can decrease to 55 billion (now the changed project passes the examination in Gostekhnadzor). Costs of construction of the module of a fuel fabrication estimated at 27 billion, later they decreased to 17 billion."(Beginning) of construction of the reactor – the end of this or the beginning of the next year because it will have to operate at full capacity in 2024," - said Tochilin.
Rosatom since 2011 realizes at SCP the project "Proryv" on creation of the latest fuel at which the nuclear power will work after 2020. In Seversk (the closed satellite town of Tomsk) as a part of PDPC there will be a reactor BREST-OD-300 installation (BREST-300) with a station nuclear fuel cycle, and also production of uranium - plutonium (nitride) fuel for reactors on fast neutrons.
