TOMSK, Mar 13 – RIA Tomsk. Detectors of Tomsk State University (TSU) successfully passed tests at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the head of TSU Laboratory for Functional Electronics Oleg Tolbanov reported RIA Tomsk.
Earlier it was reported that radiation resistant detectors of TSU are installed for tests at the LHC in 2016. Tomsk sensors proved to be much more stable than the previous ones due to the fact that they were made not from traditional silicon, but from gallium arsenide and manufactured using a special technology. They are used for the ATLAS experiment, which purpose is to search for superheavy elementary particles, such as Higgs boson.
"Now detectors function nominally, information get from them", – Tolbanov told.
He specified that now for ATLAS experiment eight detectors of TSU are used. "What will happen next - we'll see", - the interlocutor of the agency added.Also it was reported that now Tomsk detectors are used in the channel of the collider for measurement of radiation background. However in the future they, perhaps, will also detect all secondary particles which reach them, transferring data to the CERN equipment.
