TOMSK, Mar 14 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) will conduct hydrobiological inspection of the Mediterranean Sea near Alexandria region (Egypt) and will give Egyptian experts recommendations on the development of monitoring program for marine ecosystems, is reported on the website of the university on Tuesday.
It is specified that experts of TSU will study influence of the Egyptian industrial enterprises on water, flora and a fish fauna of the Mediterranean Sea. Divers of the university center "Skat" will execute sampling of hydrobionts at different depths and at the bottom. Also hydrobiologists, ichthyologists, employees of the Laboratory of Radiophysical and Optical Methods of Environmental Studies of the TSU Faculty of Radiophysics participate in the project.
"For the analysis of a condition of zooplankton scientists will bring with themselves development of TSU Faculty of Radiophysics – the hardware-software complex for studying plankton using digital holography methods. The device is capable of real-time estimation of the biomass of living organisms and the ecological state of the investigated water area", – it is said in the message.According to the university, samples of biological material will be processed in the field and in laboratories of Biological Institute of TSU. Experts will study the current state of marine hydrofauna, which will be the starting material for the development of the program for long-term monitoring of marine ecosystems.
"This will allow Egyptian experts to predict possible environmental changes, define their character and causes", – is specified on the website.
