Almost 4 thousand foreigners applied to universities of Tomsk, there is a significant growth in the number of students from Europe, countries of the far and near abroad, said the head of the region Sergei Zhvachkin on Wednesday at a meeting with the rectors of Tomsk universities.
"Almost 4 thousand entrants from abroad applied to Tomsk universities. Young people from Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, Cameroon, Portugal and Iran for the first time came to study in Tomsk. We also see a significant growth of students from Europe", – Zhvachkin said.
He stressed that every freshman-foreigner should undergo linguistic, domestic and cultural adaptation. Zhvachkin urged the rectors to consolidate the curators for students from abroad.
"We, Siberians, from time immemorial were distinguished by warm and hospitality. On the Tomsk land representatives of one hundred and forty nationalities live in peace and harmony for centuries. And even at the most remote point of the globe people have to know about it", – the head of the Tomsk region emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that more than 22 thousand entrants, according to preliminary data, applied for training in Tomsk universities during the admission campaign of 2017. Applications were submitted by 3,858 people from seven CIS countries and 33 distant countries. In the first case, most entrants are from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. From far abroad applied to all universities 131 citizens of China, 22 from Vietnam, 17 from Mongolia, and 13 from Indonesia.In 2017-2018 academic year Tomsk universities accept 9,643 applicants on the state-funded places (which is 300 more than in the previous year): 5,866 people enrolled in bachelor and specialist programs and 3,777 – in master's programs.
