TOMSK, Sep 5 – RIA Tomsk. The British edition Times Higher Education (THE) on Tuesday published its annual ranking of the world's leading universities; Tomsk State University (TSU), having taken a place in the group 501-600, kept its position in the ranking compared to last year, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) significantly improved position, having risen by 200 points.
Earlier it was reported that in 2016 TPU and TSU were on the 501-600 place of the rating THE, showing the ninth result among the universities of the Russian Federation. On the first place was University of Oxford, on the second – California Institute of Technology, on the third – Stanford University. The rating included 24 Russian universities, the best is – Moscow State University: 188th place.
According to the data published on the website of THE on September 5, in the rating of 2017 the share of Russian universities has decreased – this time there are 18, but some of them have significantly improved their positions. In particular, TPU rose by 200 points from the 501-600 group to the 301-350 group and became the third among the Russian universities in the rating. TSU showed stability and remained at the same position, in the group of 501-600.As before, Moscow State University (MSU) is the leader among Russian universities, however, compared to last year, it lost six positions and is on the 194th place of the rating.
The first line of the rating in 2017, as well as the year before, is occupied by University of Oxford. On the second place is University of Cambridge. And the third place was taken by California Institute of Technology and Stanford University.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) – is one of the most influential annual world rankings of universities, compiled by the Times Higher Education journal. It takes into account five indicators: the quality of teaching; volume and authority of scientific activity and income from it, citation; share of foreign students and teachers and international cooperation; income derived from the practical application of scientific potential.
