TOMSK, Oct 11 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and Scientific Research Institute of Semiconductor Devices (SRISR) develop intelligent module for navigation systems and navigation of transport which allows to define location and a path of movement of objects without satellite GLONASS or GPS systems, the press service of TPU reports on Wednesday.

It is specified that the developed independent module will allow to orient the movement of cars, unmanned aerial vehicles and submarines without appeal to satellite systems and will replace foreign analogs, at the same time polytechnics found a way to make the module more compact.

"There is a requirement in (non-satellite) domestic systems of navigation for transport of civil and special purpose. By the end of 2019 we will present a sample of the intelligent module on the basis of microelectromechanical sensors, it will already form the basis of systems of navigation", – the press service quotes the associate professor of Department of Precision Instrumentation of TPU Tamara Nesterenko.

Inertial sensors are at the heart of the development: gyroscope and accelerometer fix the angular and linear movement of an object, and magnetometer defines parts of the world. Foreign analogs, as a rule, consist of three gyroscopes, three accelerometers and three magnetometers. Polytechnics found a way to reduce the number of sensors to two.

"Only two sensors will enter the module. One combines functions of a gyroscope and an accelerometer, the second is a magnetometer. The area of the module will be within several square millimeters … It is relevant, for example, for the staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. It will be possible to monitor movements of firefighters in the burning structures", – words of the engineer of Department of Precision Instrumentation of TPU Evgeny Barbin are cited in the message.

The development is already protected by five patents, the last is received in the summer of 2017. The project got support according to the Federal target program "Research and Development in Priority Areas of Development of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014-2020" for the total amount of 45 million rubles.
