TOMSK, Nov 20 – RIA Tomsk. The student of master program of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Anastasia Harisova and the graduate student of TPU Alexander Yuzhakov started the physical analysis of the data obtained from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for the first time in the history of Tomsk, the press service of TPU reports on Monday.
Earlier it was reported that TPU joined work of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) as the developer of the equipment for the LHC separate hubs in 2015. In two years the university was a part of the largest collaborations of CERN – CMS and LHCb, RD51, and NA64 and COMPASS on the superproton synchrotron (SPS).
"TPU come into CERN with engineering competences, and now its scientists start to come to the level of basic researches. Two students of the university already work with data of the LHC. For the first time in the history of Tomsk students take part in such serious work. Guys are engaged in search of new, unique events under the leadership of the leading scientists of CERN", – the press service quotes the member of scientific council of CERN Maxim Titov.
It is specified that it is about the graduate student Alexander Yuzhakov who receives PhD degree in CERN, and the student of master program Anastasia Harisova who writes in the thesis in CERN. According to the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of TPU Alexander Wagner, they will become "first signs" which will help TPU to become the recognized center of researches in the sphere of fundamental physics.
"As our university is mainly practical, now there isn't present competences in the physical analysis in Polytechnic University, and we hope that shortly thanks to such joint work with CERN on training of our students they will appear", – the press service cites Wagner's words.
