TOMSK, Jan 26 – RIA Tomsk. Climatologist of Tomsk State University (TSU), head of the center of researches of biota, climate and landscapes "BioClimLand" Sergey Kirpotin became the only Russian expert invited to participation in the scientific project T-MOSAiC to investigate climatic changes in the Arctic, the press service of the university reports on Friday.
It is specified that the International Arctic scientific committee (IASC) acted as the initiator of the T-MOSAiC project. The program is aimed at the organization of large-scale land researches in the Arctic. The leading scientists from the different countries – experts in the field of the Arctic ecology, biogeochemistry, permafrostology, landscape and soil sciences will become its participants.
"Modern climatic models aren't capable to reproduce climate change. To make them more exact, additional researches are necessary. The T-MOSAiC program is aimed at the solution of this problem. Its purpose is to study not only changes, but also what will be the answer of ecosystems", – the press service quotes Kirpotin.
It is explained that change of temperature and thawing of ices in the Arctic affect, in particular, fertility of lands of many countries. The data obtained within the T-MOSAiC project are necessary to find ways of adaptation to transformation of climate and to develop target models of mitigation.
The head of the European project on study of climatic changes in the Arctic INTERACT Margaret Johansson and the researcher of Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (Germany) Hugo Lantui entered into the scientific group T-MOSAiC besides Kirpotin.
