TOMSK, Mar 1 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State (TSU) and Tomsk Polytechnic (TPU) universities raised the positions in the subject ranking of universities of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) agency; TSU raised positions in subjects Natural Sciences and Arts & Humanities, TPU – in Technical Science and Engineering, follows from data of the website of the ranking agency
Earlier it was reported that TSU and TPU were included into the 5-100 project in 2013 which participants additional financing is allocated for increase in the international competitiveness. Tomsk universities got on 482 million rubles in 2017. TSU and TPU were among the best universities of the world on natural and humanities, engineering sciences and technologies in the subject ranking of QS last year.
"The ranking includes ranging in 48 objects in 5 subjects in 2018: Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Management", – it is said on the QS website.
TSU: high positions in humanitarian and natural sciences
In subjects Natural Sciences TSU got the 293rd place, having passed into the third hundred of the best universities of the world (earlier it was reported that it entered group 401-450 in 2017). In this area achievements in chemistry, sciences about Earth and environment, geography, mathematics, physics and materials science are considered. So, physics of TSU kept high positions in group 201-250 in the subject ranking.In subjects Arts & Humanities TSU passed from the fourth hundred ranking into the third, having got the 289th place (in 2017 – the 328th position). The greatest break in this subjects is reached in the sphere of a research of the modern languages – in this subject TSU passed from group 251-300 into group 201-250.
TSU got to the subject rating of QS in the areas Social Sciences & Management (the 385th place) and Engineering & Technology (group 451-500) for the first time in 2018. In engineering subjects achievements of TSU on Computer Science & Information Systems (group 451-500) and Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing are separately noted (group 351-400).
TPU: rise in "special" subject area and exit in new
In subjects Engineering & Technology, which for Tomsk Polytechnic University is "special", the university raised the indicators on 105 points, having got the 285th position (in 2017 – the 390th place), follows from the data of ranking.
Also TPU entered in the ranking of QS in subject area Natural Sciences where got into group 401-450 for the first time.
In ratings on separate scientific disciplines TPU is ranked in the range from 201 to 500 position. So in discipline Chemical Engineering" the university is included into group 201-250; in discipline Mechanical Engineering – into group 250-300; in discipline of Engineering – Electrical & Electronic – into group 301-350; in discipline Chemistry - into group 451-500.
There are 24 Russian universities in the ranking in total, there were 28 in 2017. As well as last year, the leader among the universities of Russia is Moscow State University.
