TOMSK, Jun 7 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State and Tomsk Polytechnic universities (TSU and TPU) improved positions in the world ranking QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) again: TSU is on the 277th line, having entered top-300 and is the fourth among Russian universities; TPU takes the 373rd place, having entered TOP-10 of the Russian universities in the ranking, QS website reported.
Earlier it was reported that TPU and TSU were included into 15 leading universities of the Russian Federation in 2013 to which additional financing is allocated for increase in the international competitiveness. By 2020 not less than five Russian universities have to enter one hundred of the best universities of the world. TSU got 323 (in 2016 – 377) place in the QS rating of 2017, and TPU – the 386th place (in the 2016th – 400).
As it is reported on QS website, TSU managed to get into top-300 of the best universities of the world, now the university holds the 277th place, having risen by 46 points in a year, and TPU is on the 373rd line in rating-2018, having risen by 13 lines in comparison with last year. In total two Tomsk universities have advanced in the rating approximately on 200-300 points for the last five years of participation in the program of increase in competitiveness.
There are still universities of the USA on the first lines of the world ranking: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford and Harvard Universities.
Among Russian universities Tomsk classical university became the fourth, and Polytechnic University – the tenth. 27 universities of the Russian Federation are presented in the general world ranking in total, 17 from them are participants of the program of increase in competitiveness. The best indicators, as well as the previous year, show Moscow State University (the 90th place), St. Petersburg State University (the 235th place) and Novosibirsk State University (the 244th line).
The academic reputation of a university (40% of result), a ratio of number of teachers and students (20%), an index of quoting (20%), reputation among employers (10%), a share of foreign students (5%) and teachers (5%) are considered in the rating.
