TOMSK, Jul 27 – RIA Tomsk. The list of countries from where students come to Tomsk State University (TSU) to study in 2018 may be appended by three more; the residents of Saudi Arabia, Panama and Senegal applied to the university, the head of the TSU new admission department told journalists on Friday.
He specified that students from more than 55 countries of the world are studying at TSU, most of them - are from neighboring countries. In 2017, there were 987 foreign applicants, this year TSU plans to keep the indicators at the same level.
"An interesting regularity, and maybe these events are not connected with each other, but this year we have students from countries participating at the FIFA World Cup that were not earlier. The residents of Saudi Arabia, Panama and Senegal applied to us", - Pavlov said at a press conference in the media center of RIA Tomsk, joking that maybe it's fans who came to Tomsk and decided to stay here.
He specified that universities are interested in attracting foreigners, but today the issue of their qualitative selection is acute. "Students should not only come here, but also have a good knowledge of Russian and English, and also be substantially prepared. Today, we have more than 12 English-language programs open for them", - Pavlov said.
