TOMSK, Nov 28 – RIA Tomsk. Researchers of the UN-Habitat program (UN-Habitat – United Nations Human Settlements Programme) studied the quality of life in Tomsk and concluded that it is “rather high” – Tomsk earned more than 70 points on a scale of 100, the coordinator of the program Luis Herrera Favela told RIA Tomsk on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that in November 2017, the rector of Tomsk State University (TSU) Eduard Galazhinsky and the head of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme "UN-Habitat" Eduardo Moreno signed a document providing joint work on the study of Siberian cities and the creation of educational programs on urbanism of the future.
From November 28 to November 30, the third international forum of university cities is held at TSU. One of the forum experts - the coordinator of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme Luis Herrera Favela – told RIA Tomsk that the program on City Prosperity Index measuring (CPI) was launched in 2014. Today, the index is compiled for 500 cities around the world.
"Tomsk became the first Russian city where we compile the index of prosperity. The index aims to measure the quality of life. So far, only preliminary results are ready, but I can say that the quality of life in Tomsk is measured rather high", – the expert said.
He specified that the City Prosperity Index consists of 64 variables that characterize the quality of life and sustainability of a city’s development, including productivity, infrastructure, equality and social inclusion, environmental sustainability, city management and legislation.According to the agency interlocutor, on a scale from 0 (the lowest level of quality of life) to 100 (the highest one) Tomsk scored 71-73 points. He also said that the Scandinavian cities score most of all, their experience UN-Habitat is going to recommend Tomsk to improve the quality of life. The final results of the research and specific recommendations will be presented in early 2019.
