TOMSK, Dec 4 – RIA Tomsk. The powerful ion accelerator INURA, created with the use of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) scientists technology, was launched in Kazakhstan, the website of the university reported on Tuesday; the installation will help to obtain new scientific results in the physics of ion beams and plasma, as well as develop new materials for industry.

"New research complex with the powerful pulse ionic accelerator INURA (Innovative Nazarbayev University's Research Accelerator) launched at Nazarbayev University (Astana, Kazakhstan). It was designed and built in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA) and Tomsk Polytechnic University", - is said in the statement.

According to the press service of the university, the installation will help to obtain new scientific results in the physics of ion beams and plasma, as well as to develop promising technologies for industry - new materials, nanopowders. On the creation of the accelerator worked scientists from TPU R&D Laboratory for Pulse-Beam, Electric Discharge and Plasma Technologies under the guidance of the professor Gennady Remnev.

"INURA - is the powerful ion accelerator with a very flexible system of output parameters. With small dimensions of the installation itself, it is possible to create large capacities on a local surface area. This allows to influence the structure of the surface layer of the material, thereby changing its properties in the right direction", - the research associate of TPU laboratory Mikhail Zhuravlev is quoted.

According to him, another important feature of INURA - is a very “flexible” accelerator: the engineering solutions proposed by polytechnicians allowed to create an accelerator configuration with variable parameters in a wide range. For example, there is the possibility of changing the amplitude and energy of the pulses.

According to the press service of Nazarbayev University, "despite the fact that the INURA accelerator was recently launched at the university, many research groups of Nazarbayev University, as well as Kazakhstan and foreign research centers express interest in its use and joint research works".
