TSU scientists obtained new data for diagnosis of vascular accidents

TOMSK, Dec 19 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) together with colleagues from Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine obtained new data on the work of the blood coagulation system; this information will help reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes, is reported on the website of TSU.

It is specified that researchers from TSU and Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine study the processes of hemostasis (the blood coagulation system). At the initial stage, scientists have created an electronic database with data of several hundred patients with coagulation disorders.

"The information was processed with the help of computing systems. Based on the obtained data was built physical and mathematical model which allows to describe changes in the aggregative state of the blood during the process of thrombus formation", – is said in the statement.

It is added that more than 10 years ago in Tomsk was created the "Mednord" device to analyze the blood coagulation process, bypassing the lengthy and complex stage of sample preparation. The device is widely used in clinical practice, but does not allow researchers to fully understand the system of regulation of the aggregative state of the blood.

"Physical and mathematical modeling of the process and its verification by laboratory experiments conducted at TSU allowed to obtain new data that can be used to expand the functionality of the device. In the long term, this will allow to detect changes in the blood structure that indicate the beginning of a serious disease in advance", – reports the press service.

According to the TSU website, diseases of the cardiovascular system are on the first place among the causes of death in the Russian Federation, and often not their progress, but thrombohemorrhagic complications caused by blood coagulation disorders leads to fatal outcome. To reduce the percentage of "vascular accidents", precise diagnostic tools to identify the problem at the initial stage are needed.
