TOMSK, Jan 21 – RIA Tomsk. Radiophysicists of Tomsk State University (TSU) are developing a device which will help to detect breast cancer at an early stage, as well as conduct non-invasive diagnostics of blood and diseases of internal organs using radio waves, the press service of the university said on Monday.

According to the press service, now the most widespread method for studying of human internal organs – is x-ray tomography, which reveals tissue compaction. But this indicator often does not characterize the occurrence of a tumor, and this makes diagnosis difficult.

"More accurate parameter – is the dielectric constant of the environment. It is mainly determined by the moisture content than the mass. The change in water concentration is reflected in the occurrence of various diseases during early diagnostics. Thus, the analysis and diagnosis of pathologies can be performed using radio waves", – the Head of the Department of Radiophysics Vladimir Yakubov is quoted in the message.

It is added that the new development of TSU is a hemisphere of thin plastic, on which a set of sensors is located. As a simplified model of the mammary gland scientists used frozen pork fat. In the course of the experiments, radiophysicists were able to develop such methods for radiation focusing, which make it possible to obtain images of inhomogeneities hidden inside the fat. This result will become a basis for creating a system for early diagnosis of oncological diseases.

The press service reports that the device will also allow with the use of radio waves to conduct non-invasive tests of blood and diseases of internal organs. Tomsk scientists proposed their own way of conducting an electromagnetic pulse deep into the human body by reducing the frequency of the wave used. Usually it is absorbed by the top layer of the skin, thereby reliably protecting us, for example, from the negative impact of phones or smartphones.

The research is conducted on the basis of the Faculty of Radiophysics and the Siberian Physical Technical Institute. The project has already been supported by the Mendeleev Foundation and a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.
