TOMSK, Jan 21 – RIA Tomsk. The number of foreign students at Tomsk State University (TSU) will increase by 2025 more than twice – up to 6,000; a third of them should come from far abroad, for the growth of this indicator universities will receive billions of dollars from the state budget, the vice rector of TSU for international affairs Artem Rykun reported RIA Tomsk.
"The Ministry of Education and Science set the task for us: to increase the number of foreign students up to 6,000 by 2025. 2,000 from them must be from far abroad foreign countries. The Higher School of Economics develops the project, when just to this indicator will be attached the financing of capital construction of universities. It is supposed that under its growth universities will be able to receive billions of dollars in funds", – Rykun said.
According to him, now 2.7 thousand foreign students study at TSU. Now TSU is preparing an estimate for the construction of a new building on Lenin, 49 (on the site of the former TSU dispensary). A financial rationale for the construction of two more hostels will be followed, one of the possible locations is – the Yuzhnaya Square area."The lack of places for foreign students in the dormitories – is perhaps one of the cornerstones today. Last year we had to condense them. Not everyone was satisfied with this, we may suffer reputational losses. The new hostel, which is actively built on Arkady Ivanov street, will resolve an issue for some time, but in 2022 we will ... definitely need another one, in 2023 – the next one", – told Rykun.
"The task of the relevant ministry – is to turn educational exports into the third source of state budget revenues, along with raw materials and grain. Many countries – such as the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States - earn a lot of education, Russia also has every chance for that", – the interlocutor of the agency summed up.
Earlier it was reported that on the site of the former TSU dispensary on Lenin Avenue, 49 for 3-5 years, it is planned to build a building called Creative Media Hall, where will study journalists, designers and IT specialists.
