RAS, Evgeny Gorlov (associate professor at the Faculty of Radiophysics of Tomsk State University) and Viktor Zharkov became winners of the Presidential Prizes
in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists for 2018 for development of
lidar method of remote explosives detection, reports TASS.
It is noted that the Presidential Prizes in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists, established in 2008, is awarded for significant contribution to the development of domestic science, development of samples of new equipment and technologies, as well as the strengthening of the country's defense capability. The size of each award - is 2.5 million rubles. At the end of 2018, five people received it, including two Tomsk residents.
"Evgeny Gorlov and Viktor Zharkov, employees of V.E. Zuev Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science (IAO SB RAS), became the laureates of the Presidential Prizes in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists", - the Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Andrey Fursenko is quoted in the message.
It is specified that Tomsk citizens received an award for the development and implementation of the lidar method of remote detection of explosives. According to the Kremlin’s website, a lidar (laser-location) method proposed by Tomsk scientists for detecting ultra-low concentrations of explosives in the air and on surfaces allows to secretly find a source of danger at a safe distance.
"In the process of hardware implementation of the method, unique lidar complexes with canine nose sensitivity for remote operational detection of micron-sized explosive particles and in conditions of intense passenger traffic were created. Independent evaluation tests confirmed that the tactical and technical characteristics of the developed complexes significantly exceed the nearest foreign analogues", - is said in the message.
According to TASS, also among the winners of the award there are Ekaterina Grizanova from Novosibirsk State Agricultural University, Vyacheslav Dyachuk from Zhirmunsky National Research Center of Marine Biology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and employee of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology Ivan Oseledets.
