TOMSK, Apr 22 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) and Rubius IT-company on Monday opened at the university a laboratory of VR/AR-technologies within the framework of the "University 4.0" project; here, TSU students will learn to develop various applications and services, the correspondent of RIA Tomsk reports from the opening ceremony.
Earlier it was reported that in the summer of 2018, TSU and the Rubius company started the implementation of the "Virtual University 4.0" digital project – open IT platform UniVRsity for the development of educational applications and services using VR / AR technologies.
The opening ceremony of the laboratory took place on Monday, April 22, in the second building of TSU.
"One of the tasks of the laboratory is to develop applications and services, and virtual and augmented reality technologies and finished products will be used for scientific and production purposes", – the director of the TSU Center of Computer and Data Science Alexander Zamyatin said at the opening ceremony.
He added that also within the framework of the project TSU and Rubius in 2019 a magistracy in the direction of virtual reality will be opened at the university.
According to the technical director of Rubius Anton Kudinov, with the opening of the VR / AR technology laboratory, faculty and staff of TSU will be able to create new educational products with the help of virtual and augmented reality technologies which will help students learn material more quickly.
According to the press service of the university, the cost of the laboratory is estimated at 1 million rubles.
