TOMSK, Jul 29 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) will complete in August a set of undergraduates for the specialization "Physics of elementary particles", which graduates will be able to qualify for work in the teams of the hadron colliders NICA (Dubna) and CERN (Switzerland), the press service of the university reported on Monday.

It is specified that in 2018 at the TSU Faculty of Physics opened the "Physics of elementary particles" specialization, the purpose of which – is training specialists to work in large research projects, including European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland and Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR ) in Dubna.

"In addition to the theory of particle physics, undergraduates will be taught to analyze data obtained during the most hardest physical experiments. Applications are accepted until August 14. New specialization has appeared at TSU thanks to a high demand from research centers in Russia and the world for specialists of a similar profile", – is said in the message.

It is added that in 2017 TSU team received a grant from the Russian government to create a world-class center for analyzing data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. TSU scientists at CERN are testing the sensors needed to upgrade the LHC. Graduate students and undergraduates of TSU, studying in the specialization "Physics of elementary particles", joined the tasks of data analysis for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.

"A potential employer is also the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, with which TSU has signed a cooperation agreement in the field of research and training. It is on the basis of JINR that a new NICA collider is being built - to study the properties of dense baryonic matter", - the press service reports.

According to the university, during the master's degree program students will have the opportunity to complete a scientific work in Dubna, and then stay there and possibly take part in the work of the NICA accelerator complex, the first stage of which will be commissioned just in 2021. In addition, within the framework of cooperation with JINR, it is possible to start work in an experiment on the study of neutrino physics on Baikal.

"Graduates of a bachelor’s degree in a physical, mathematical or engineering profile can enter the MA course. It is possible to find out more about the admission conditions in the selection committee of the Faculty of Physics", – summarizes the press service.
