TOMSK, Feb 6 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State University (TSU) will open two new laboratories in the field of machine analysis of astronomical data and quantum information technologies at the expense of grants from the Ministry of Education and Science; funds for the creation and equipping of laboratories will begin to arrive at TSU in 2020, the university’s press service said.
“Tomsk State University is among the universities whisch projects for the creation of new laboratories were supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The grants are designed for four years, the first tranches will come to the university this year. This will help the university to create two laboratories – computer simulation and machine analysis of astronomical data and a laboratory of quantum information technology", – is said in the report.
It is noted that the laboratory of computer modeling and machine analysis of astronomical data of TSU will work in conjunction with the Terskol Observatory, located in the Elbrus region of Kabardino-Balkaria. The laboratory will focus on computer simulation and machine analysis of the behavior of asteroids, artificial satellites and space debris.
The work of the second new laboratory will be associated with quantum cryptography and quantum computing. Currently, quantum cryptography is considered one of the most reliable ways to protect information, notes the report of the university."First of all, it will be fundamental research. But on the material base we created, device prototypes, we will try to adapt the already known algorithms of quantum key distribution and quantum computing. Of course, in addition to basic research, we are focused on the practical application of new devices", – the press service quotes the head of the laboratory Evgeny Lipatov.
It is planned that both laboratories will reach their design capacity within four years. However, the first money tranches from the Ministry of Education and Science, and, accordingly, the first purchases of laboratory equipment, will begin in 2020.
