TOMSK, May 14 – RIA Tomsk. The number of residents of Tomsk as of January 1, 2020 amounted to 597 819 people, the mayor of Tomsk Ivan Klein said on Thursday during the annual report; thus, the population of the city increased by 1.3 thousand people over the year.
Earlier it was reported that the population of Tomsk has not declined since 2005. In 2018 it increased by 1 245 people and amounted to 596.5 thousand people. At the same time, the natural growth of residents is preserved.
"Migration growth also indicates a change in the quality of urban environment, safety and comfort of living in Tomsk. According to updated data from Tomskstat, the population of our city as of January 1, 2020 amounted to 597 819 people", – Klein said.
He noted that the authorities managed to stop the trend that developed in 2015-2017 in Tomsk, when the number of Tomsk citizens leaving for permanent residence in other regions of the Russian Federation and the country was growing. "Now we are fixing stable reverse situation", – the mayor said.According to him, the opportunity to get a high-quality higher education and to realize professionally, consistently high level of salary, availability of comfortable housing, overall level of security and modern urban environment together give a positive population dynamics.
