TOMSK, May 21 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) together with colleagues from Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) developed regenerative membrane dressings to treat purulent wounds; they use raw materials of domestic production, due to which the cost of Tomsk dressings is lower compared to foreign counterparts, the TPU press service said.
It is specified that the project is carried out with the support of the All-Russian Institute of Aviation Materials.
“We developed a composite that is applied to the wound, sorb the pus and can be easily removed without injuring the tissue again. At the same time, our dressing has unique properties that make it cheaper and more effective”, - the participant of the scientific team, TPU employee Tamara Tverdokhlebova is quoted in the message.
It is added that the scientists made regenerating membrane dressings from a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene with vinylidene fluoride and polyvinylpyrrolidone, which are produced in Russia. At the same time, they used the electroforming method, which allows in one step to get the finished product of the required quality with low cost."Dressings with medications are often used to treat purulent wounds. However, microorganisms quickly adapt, some hospital-acquired infections are resistant to even the strongest antibiotics. Our products are effective even without the addition of medications", - the authors of the development noted.
Polymeric membranes have successfully passed preclinical tests on laboratory animals. Histological and immunohistochemical studies have shown the viability and prospects of development. The research article is published in the IOPScience journal.
