TOMSK, Jun 30 – RIA Tomsk. The rector of Tomsk State University (TSU) Eduard Galazhinsky took part in a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation on the situation on the labor market; in addition to job fairs, TSU plans to reformat curriculum in favor of developing entrepreneurial skills among graduates, reported on the website of the Russian government on Tuesday.
According to the Government of the Russian Federation, the number of officially registered unemployed in the country from April 1, 2020 increased by 3.5 times - by 227 thousand people and amounted to 4.513 million people. The government associates rising unemployment with the COVID-19 pandemic. Under these conditions, President Vladimir Putin instructed the government and the regions to take measures to fully restore the Russian labor market in 2021.
“Of the 11 thousand graduates of our universities, about 10% were refused (in employment) due to the changing situation on the market. But of course we try to equate this situation by compensating measures. These are, first of all, already understandable formats: online job fairs, gaining additional competencies in the WorldSkills format", – Galazhinsky said.
The work on creating new jobs in the socially significant sector of the economy allowed us to open about 30 new job positions in Tomsk, in particular digital assistants and social managers, to form a pool of employment projects in various sectors of the economy and allow students to form, in fact, new jobs, the rector emphasized."This project unexpectedly transformed for us into a digital platform and an aggregator of competencies outside of students' academic employment ... It turned out that in essence we came up with a big federal initiative that will allow us to change the content of education and set completely new tasks", – Galazhinsky told.
According to the rector, by 2026, approximately half of the world's working population will be in the field of self-employment. And this situation poses new challenges for universities. TSU is working out tools to strengthen the entrepreneurial track – taking a person’s responsibility for his fate and creating a job with taking into account key economic trends, the rector noted.
