TOMSK, Jan 13 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of the Laboratory of Chemical Technologies of Tomsk State University (TSU), together with colleagues from the Institute of High Current Electronics (IHCE) SB RAS, created a new coating that protects electronics at temperatures from minus 196 to plus 130 degrees Celsius, the university's press service reported on Wednesday.

"TSU Scientists of the Laboratory of Chemical Technologies, together with the staff of the Institute of High Current Electronics (IHCE) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, have created a new protective coating that is resistant to extreme temperature extremes and has high chemical resistance to many solvents. It can be used to protect against premature corrosion of electrical printed circuit boards and electronic components", - says the release.

It is added that the new coating is able to improve the reliability of the equipment used in the Arctic. Testing has shown that it retains its functional properties in air at extreme temperatures ranging from minus 196 to plus 130 degrees.

Now, various paints and varnishes are often used as protective coatings, including those based on epoxy resins. It is often difficult to apply coatings to hard-to-reach areas, which can lead to failure of the entire board. The application of the new method will allow to solve the problems existing in traditional approaches.

"The (new) coating is applied from the gas phase... This process takes no more than 30 minutes in time, and the coating is smooth and mechanically strong. Since the deposition occurs from the gas phase, there are no problems with the penetration of the reaction gas into hard-to-reach places", - the press service quoted one of the project's executors, TSU employee Daniil Zuza.

It is added that the researchers plan to continue their research and expand the scope of application of the new coating. So, this development can be promising for use in outer space to protect current-carrying parts of spacecraft.
