Earlier it was reported that the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) will organize a round-the-world trip on a trimaran in July 2021 in the footsteps of Russian mariners. It was also reported that any Tomsk citizen will be able to join the circumnavigation by taking part in the competition.
According to the published data, the travelers plan to study the passage of VHF radio signals from space sources, including signals from global navigation satellite systems, and to study the natural background radiation of the Earth on land and in the ocean along the route of the expedition. Siberians will also conduct training sessions for schoolchildren and students.
"During the expedition will be implemented educational programs for schoolchildren and students. Among them there are "Lessons from the Ocean", which the trimaran team will conduct via satellite communications, and "Live Geography Lessons" – a series of educational videos that will be filmed during the expedition and posted on the Internet in the public domain", – the ministry said.
It is specified that another goal of the expedition will be diplomatic – the members of the expedition, including the Tomsk traveler Evgeny Kovalevsky and the Novosibirsk citizen Stanislav Berezkin, will represent Russia, its scientific, educational and tourist potential in 40 countries and territories along the route of the vessel.
It was also reported earlier that the expedition project "Along the Way of Russian Circumnavigation Mariners" won the presidential grants competition in the nomination "Development of public diplomacy and support of compatriots", receiving support in the amount of 7,9 million rubles. The total cost of its implementation is 16,2 million rubles.
