TOMSK, Feb 10 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), together with colleagues from Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) and Jönköping University (Sweden), received a grant to study the factors affecting the life and health of the elderly, the TPU website reported on Wednesday.
It is specified that the international team won the competition of the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher education (STINT). The Foundation's support is designed for a year, during which time scientists are researching socio-economic factors that affect the quality of life and health status of older people in Russia and Sweden.
"We are uniting the efforts of Swedish and Russian scientists in the field of aging. Together we hope to respond to the current demographic challenges that are transforming the modern economy, health care system, social and pension security, long-term care for senior citizens", – TPU professor Galina Barysheva is quoted in the statement.
The press service notes that scientists will work with information collected in eight regions of Russia and in Sweden. This data may be useful in the future for local and regional authorities making decisions on social support measures for the elderly.
With the support of the Swedish foundation, the researchers also plan to record a series of podcasts in English on the subject of the grant for graduate and undergraduate students of TPU and Siberian State Medical University. The podcasts will be used in a new educational program "Data-Driven Economics", developed at TPU.
