TOMSK, Feb 16 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk State University (TSU) will develop in the next 10 years in four priority areas at once, including synthetic biology and new social and humanitarian technologies, Rector Eduard Galazhinsky told reporters on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Galazhinsky took part in a round table organized at the RIA Tomsk media center. The event is dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology, which is held in Russia in 2021 by decree of the President of the Russian Federation.
"We are entering the Year of Science with the definition of priorities for the next 10 years. There are four key lines for moving forward. One of the lines is new for us, we set an ambition to take high positions in this area, in which leadership is just being formed in the world. This is synthetic biology, connected, in fact, with the construction of a synthetic cell, the construction of a gene synthesizer", – Galazhinsky said.
According to him, other directions include security and sovereignty technologies associated with new materials, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence. It is also a direction for studying global climate change and the quality of life on the planet.
The last direction, according to him, is a block, traditional for the university, connected with new humanitarian knowledge and technologies. It will close the existing need for the so-called "high humanitarian technologies" which help people to become a better version of themselves, to gain meaningfulness.
"Through digital technologies and artificial intelligence, we and our industrial partners are moving aside and, I hope, by the fall we will issue a prototype of a technological solution that allows us to massively help people in sense of life understanding", – he said.
