TOMSK, Feb 16 – RIA Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) and their colleagues from universities of Uzbekistan are conducting research that can be used to model the spread and death of viruses, including COVID-19, the TSU website reported on Tuesday.
It is specified that one of the co-leaders of the international scientific group is Svetlana Moiseyeva, professor of the TSU Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. In addition to TSU, nine more scientists from universities of Uzbekistan are participating in the research. The project received a grant in the amount of 3 million rubles for the competition for fundamental projects of the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan.
"The results of the project can be applied, among other things, to modeling the spread of viruses in pandemic conditions. <...> It will be possible to predict the number of cases and calculate options to prevent an uncontrolled increase in the incidence", – Moiseyeva is quoted in the message.
The press service explains that the main direction of the project is fundamental research on "the asymptotic properties of models of branching processes with immigration, including processes that depend on the age of particles". It adds that the research could be applied to modeling the spread of viruses and predicting changes in population, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to TSU, within the framework of the project, joint publications in leading scientific journals, in Russian and foreign publications are planned.
