TOMSK, Feb 28 – RIA Tomsk. Interactive authentic prison cells will appear in the Tomsk memorial museum "NKVD Remand Prison" after renovation, which will begin in the spring; the renovated museum will open for visitors in 2023, coordinator of regional projects of the Memory Fund Alexey Trubin told RIA Tomsk.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Fund "Perpetuating the Memory of Victims of Political Repressions" (Memory Fund) bought out for the Tomsk memorial museum "NKVD Remand Prison" the adjacent room in a building at 44 Lenin Avenue. After the renovation, which will begin in the coming months, the area of the museum will double, it will renew the exposition and open a cafe.
"The museum that we will open in the "NKVD Remand Prison" will be even more interactive. For example, prison cells will be installed there within the historical boundaries in which they were. And each cell will tell a certain story. It will be a truly modern museum. Now it is at the design stage. With the support (and funds) of our foundation, it will be updated", – Trubin said, adding that the museum will open in two years.
As the director of the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore Svyatoslav Perekhozhev ("NKVD Remand Prison" is a branch of this museum) said at the opening of a new exhibition about the Gulag, the project of renovating the museum will be ready in the spring. At the same time, renovations will begin, and the museum will be closed for visitors.Earlier it was reported that the exhibition "The History of the Gulag. System and Victims" opened at the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore on February 26. It will become the main exposition of the "NKVD Remand Prison" during and after its renovation.
The state museum "NKVD Remand Prison" is located in the basement, which from 1923 to 1944 was the inner prison of the Tomsk city department of the NKVD.
