TOMSK, Mar 4 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk State University (TSU) entered 13 subject rankings of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) – 2021, confirming an increase in the number of competitive areas of training at the university, the TSU press service reported on Thursday with reference to the rector Eduard Galazhinsky.
Earlier it was reported that TSU was included in the QS World University Rankings by Subject – 2021 in 13 disciplines. In 8 disciplines, it retained last year's positions, in two it improved indicators. Also, the university for the first time entered the rating in the areas of "Mathematics" and "Philosophy".
As the press service clarifies, TSU has become the sixth university in Russia in terms of the number of subjects included in the published part of the QS rankings.
"TSU pays more attention not so much to a specific ranking, but to increasing the number of competitive areas. Now there are 36 of them at TSU, of which 13 are in the visible part of the rankings. It is important to increase the qualitative diversity, including for interdisciplinary research," – TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinsky is quoted in the message.
It is noted that TSU is for the first time presented in the subject ranking of philosophy (group 151-200), and this is the result of efforts made at the Faculty of Philosophy to promote the concepts of scientists at the global level. Also, for the first time, TSU entered the QS ranking in mathematics (group 401-450), and according to the press service the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center, created in 2018, played a role in achieving this result.It is added that the university improved its indicators in "Physics & Astronomy" (group 151-200, in 2020 – group 201-250) and "Computer Science and Information Systems" (group 401-450, in 2020 - 451-500) and retained positions in disciplines of "Linguistics", "Archaeology", "Modern Languages", "English Language & Literature", "Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering", "Chemical Engineering", "Chemistry" and "Biological Sciences".
