TOMSK, May 12 – RIA Tomsk. The festival of the peoples of the North with the Selkup name "Varg ӧt nucheld", or the Festival of Big Water, will be held in Tomsk on May 15; everyone will be able to hold rites with a shaman, take part in ethnic workshops and Selkup games, try fly agaric, co-organizer of the event, head of the ANO Coordinating Center ETIS Svetlana Savina told.
According to her, representatives of small people - Selkups, who live in the Tomsk region, opened a Cultural Center of the Peoples of the Small North in Tomsk at the beginning of 2021. On Saturday, May 15, for the first time in the regional center a thematic festival Varg ӧt nucheld (Festival of Big Water in Selkup) will be held to coincide with the opening of the center.
"From 2 p.m. an acting shaman will perform rituals for the fulfillment of wishes and treat everyone to a fly agaric drink. Then we will go to the Ushayka River, where there will be a rite of feeding the spirits of water and trees. At 3.30 p.m. there will be a tasting of national dishes, such as dried fish, herbs and roots. Also, there will be a fair of handicrafts, ethnic workshops, photo sessions, songs and dances," Savina said.
She specified that the event is held by the Ilsat Interethnic Association and Coordination center ETIS. The festivities will begin on Altaiskaya Street, 3, and participation is free.
