TSU and TPU retained positions in the QS World University Rankings

TOMSK, Jun 9 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk State (TSU) and Tomsk Polytechnic (TPU) universities retained their position in the international rankings of the world’s top universities Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) - 2021; TSU took the 272nd place (the 250th place in 2020), TPU rose by 5 points, being in the 395th place (the 401st place in 2020), according to the QS official website.

Earlier it was reported that in the QS-2020 ranking Tomsk State University (TSU) held the 250th (in 2019 - the 268th position), Tomsk Polytechnic - the 401st position (in 2019 - the 387th position).

As the QS 2021 rankings show, TSU ranked the 272nd (down 22 points for the year), but maintained its position in the same 250-300 group. In addition, the university retained the fourth position among Russian universities on the list (ahead of Moscow (MSU), St. Petersburg (SPbU) and Novosibirsk State Universities (NSU).

TPU is in the 395th position in the QS-2021 ranking (an increase of six positions over the year) and is still the 15th among Russian universities.

Moscow State University is in the first place among Russian universities - it ranks the 78th in the ranking. Next in the top three Russian universities are St. Petersburg State University (the 242nd place) and Novosibirsk State University (the 246th place). All in all Russia is represented by 48 universities. As a year ago, the top line in the list of the best universities in the world is at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the second - at Oxford, the third place is taken by Stanford.

Earlier it was reported that the QS Rankings methodology is based on assessing the activities of universities according to six criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio.

Earlier, it was also reported that TSU and TPU since 2013 participated in the "5-100" global competitiveness program, aimed at ensuring that by 2020 in the Russian Federation there was a group of leading universities with international academic reputation that are able to meet global development trends. Since 2021, the "5-100" program has been replaced by the new Program of Strategic Academic Leadership (PSAL) Priority 2030.
