TOMSK, Jul 23 – RIA Tomsk. Participants of the around-the-world sea expedition on a trimaran organized by the Tomsk branch of the RGS didn’t get to Denmark because of the pandemic; however, they visited Finland and Sweden, in the Swedish city of Malmö Tomsk citizen Evgeny Kovalevsky was provided with medical care after falling on a trimaran, a representative of the RGS told.

Earlier it was reported that the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society in 2021-2023 will organize a round-the-world expedition on a trimaran, headed by Tomsk resident Evgeny Kovalevsky. The project "Along the Way of Russian Circumnavigation Mariners" won a presidential grant of 7.9 million rubles, and the total cost of its implementation is 16.2 million rubles. The mission of the expedition is not only a trip, but also research work in different parts of the world.

"The travelers of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society Evgeny Kovalevsky and Stanislav Berezkin have completed the first stage along the route of the first Russian circumnavigators on a trimaran. For 21 days since the start the crew has visited Finland and Sweden... Due to covid restrictions the crew did not manage to visit Denmark, therefore the route of the expedition was corrected", – a representative of the Russian Geographical Society said.

He also added that the expedition was also slightly delayed due to the injury of Kovalevsky. In Sweden, during the crossing from Stockholm to the city of Malmö, the traveler slipped on the deck of a trimaran, fell and broke a rib. Later, however, during a medical examination in Malmö, a local doctor told Tomsk native that he only got away with a serious bruise and prescribed treatment and medication.

"Finland and Sweden are both beautiful countries, clean and green, and the people are friendly and welcoming. The attitude of both Finns and Swedes is wonderful. We stood in guest marinas. Every day from 100 to 200 people came to the trimaran. Everyone was interested, asking questions. It turned out that the local population knows very little about Russia, about Siberia – generally the only word "cold", – the interlocutor quoted Kovalevsky.

Within the framework of diplomatic events were also signed about 10 agreements on cooperation between the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society and various organizations in Finland, Sweden and Denmark (Russian delegation did come to Swedish Malmö to meet with travelers). The round-the-world journey by Kovalevsky and Berezkin continues.
