TOMSK, Sep 2 – RIA Tomsk. The number of foreigners admitted to Tomsk State University (TSU) in 2021 increased by 18% compared to 2020 and amounted to 1,193 people, they are citizens of 37 countries, Head of the TSU New Recruitment Department Evgeny Pavlov said at a press conference on the results of admission campaign in universities of the Siberian Federal District.
Earlier it was reported that all universities of the Russian Federation had increased the number of state-funded places for 2021/2022, with Tomsk universities increasing the number of places by 24.3% (by almost 4,000). The leader in the number of state-funded places among Tomsk universities is TSU (3.8 thousand places). In the current admission campaign 10.2 thousand applications have been submitted to the university (22% more than in 2020), with the number of foreign applicants increasing by 20%.
"In terms of international applicants, a total of 1,193 applicants from 37 countries entered this year, an increase of 18% over last year. The main supplier state is Kazakhstan, with more than 600 students enrolled in various fields of study. Our friendly republics of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are the leaders, and the rest are students from abroad", – Pavlov said.
He also added that the increase in the number of international students admitted, in his opinion, is due to TSU's interest in cooperation with foreign centers and foreign partners. In addition, Tomsk universities are now positioning themselves as world-class universities; this is due, among other things, to the construction of a single campus for all six universities within the framework of the Big University program.
