TOMSK, Sep 11 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), following its participation in the Priority 2030 program of the Minobrnauki, is set to become a global center for developing and translating promising models of education, science and innovation; the university's team, headed by Acting Rector Dmitry Sednev, defended its application, the TPU Telegram channel said.
It was reported earlier that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation will launch the Priority 2030 program to support universities in 2021. In the first stage, 120 universities will be selected to receive additional funding to improve their competitiveness. TPU's application includes initiatives to develop technologies for hydrogen, nuclear and thermonuclear energy, renewable energy sources and improving the efficiency of hydrocarbon management.
"Today in Moscow, TPU's team defended the university's development program. <...> TPU's strategic goal: to become a globally recognized multimodel center for the formation, practice and translation of promising models of education, science and innovation in order to transform the country's scientific, technological and educational landscape," the statement said.
TPU's application includes three strategic projects: "Energy of the Future", which includes hydrogen, nuclear and traditional industries; "Health Engineering", dedicated to reducing mortality from neoplasms and circulatory diseases; and "New Engineering Education", which will form a system for creating and verifying new models of engineering education and technological entrepreneurship.
"If we implement strategic projects, we can increase our consolidated budget by alienating the results of the projects <...> By increasing the university's development budget, we can guarantee stable growth and no stagnation," Acting Rector Sednev, who defended the university's application to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, is quoted in the statement.It was also reported that besides TPU, four more Tomsk universities applied for participation in the program: Classical University (TSU), State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR), Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) and State University of Architecture and Building (TSUAB). Their applications include 17 key areas, in the development of which the universities intend to use each other's potential.
