TOMSK, Sep 24 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk doctors will develop genetic technologies to block metastases in cancer, Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) has received a grant of over 260 million rubles from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the press service of the regional administration said on Friday.
According to the regional administration, the funding was received within the framework of the federal scientific and technical program for the development of genetic technologies. A total of 128 applications from 8 federal districts and 35 regions were received. SSMU will receive more than 260 million rubles to implement the project.
"The main goal of the program is to develop and apply the most advanced genetic technologies to block metastases of key oncological diseases leading to high mortality and disability both in Russia and around the world", – the press service quotes the university's Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Education and Research Olga Fedorova.
It is clarified that the grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has become one of the largest in the history of the university. The success of the Tomsk scientists was made possible thanks to the integration of competences within the framework of the Big University. The project will be led by Professor, Head of the Department of Innate Immunity and Immunological Tolerance of Heidelberg University (Germany), an employee of SSMU and Tomsk State University Julia Kzhyshkowska.
