TOMSK, Oct 15 – RIA Tomsk.Tomsk State University (TSU) initiated the creation of an interdisciplinary consortium comprising Russia's leading research centers; the participants will use breakthrough technologies to develop new materials for medicine, space and other areas, the university's website reported on Friday.
It is specified that the association includes about 10 leading research centers from Tomsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities. The consortium will carry out research projects under specific tasks set by industrial partners or the state.
"TSU initiated the creation of an interdisciplinary consortium aimed at developing new materials for medicine, space, military-industrial complex and other areas. It includes TSU, Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science SB RAS (ISPMS SB RAS), Institute for Problems of Chemical and Energetic Technologies SB RAS, SMTU, SPSIT, Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics RAS, Tomsk National Research Medical Center (TNRMC), a number of other scientific centers", – says the report.
It was added that the partners will use breakthrough technologies of digital and experimental design and modelling of technological processes to create new materials. It will allow to create essentially new compounds and considerably accelerate their emergence. The capacity of the TSU SKIF Cyberia supercomputer will be used for digital modelling.According to the report, it takes 10 years on average to develop a new material, study its properties and transfer it into industrial use. Computer modelling will reduce this time frame by at least half.
