TOMSK, Nov 15 – RIA Tomsk. Tomsk universities are coming up with a name for the Big University; students have suggested their option - UTU (United Tomsk University), Rector of Tomsk State University (TSU) Eduard Galazhinsky said at the press conference "Tomsk Big University: driver of knowledge region development" at TASS on Tuesday.
Earlier it was reported that the scientific and educational complex of the Tomsk region is the key to the strategy of social and economic development of the region. One of the first steps to achieve this goal was the creation of the Big University that will integrate six universities and all Tomsk research institutes while keeping their legal independence. Integration is necessary to improve the competitiveness of Tomsk education and science in Russia and the world, and to develop Tomsk as a university city.
"We realized that we are not visible on the world map among 30,000 universities. If we want to be visible, we have to have a common brand, a common positioning strategy. About 30 groups have been working intensively for three years now. One of the groups is dedicated to a common positioning story. There have been a lot of discussions. Students had a suggestion to be called UTU - United Tomsk University", says Galazhinsky.
According to Galazhinsky, Tomsk universities are now negotiating for UTU to participate in international rankings as one entity.
