TOMSK, Sept 15 –
RIA Tomsk. Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and Tomsk State University
(TSU) improved the indicators in the world QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rating of
higher education institutions: both Tomsk leading higher education institutions
are included in world top-500 now and Russian top ten higher education
institutions, follows from data on the rating website.
The assessment
of the best universities of the world in the QS rating is made on the basis of
six criteria: the academic reputation, reputation among employers, a ratio of
teaching structure to number of students, a quoting index, a share of foreign
students, and also foreign teachers.

According to QS,
both Tomsk higher education institutions were included into group 481-490 while
TPU was in group 501-550 before, TSU was in group 491-500. Thus TSU was on the
10th place among the Russian higher education institutions a year ago, and TPU
was on the 11th, now both Tomsk higher education institutions share the eighth
place in Russian top-10.
In the general
rating there are seven higher education institutions of the Russian Federation
ahead of the Tomsk's: Moscow State University of Lomonosov (the 108th line),
St. Petersburg State University (the 256th place), Novosibirsk State University
(the 317th place), Bauman Moscow State Technical University (the 338th place),
MGIMO (the 397th place), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (group
431-440) and St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University (group 471-480).
Thus Tomsk
higher education institutions bypassed such leading Russian higher education
institutions, as National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” and the Higher
School of Economics (501-550), The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia
(601-650) and others.
Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) became the leader of the QS world rating again,
Harvard University is on the second place – both universities are from the USA,
on the third place is the University of Cambridge from Great Britain.
TPU and TSU
entered top-15 leading Russian universities in 2013 which will get additional
financing for the program of increase of the international competitiveness.
Following the results of the last year both Tomsk higher education institutions
were included into the four of the strongest participants of the program. Not
less than five universities of the Russian Federation have to enter into one
hundred the best higher education institutions of the world by 2020.
