TOMSK, May
4 – RIA Tomsk. The devices developed in Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) will
allow to do fast and cheap analyses on contents of meldonium in an organism of
athletes, the press service of the university said on Wednesday.
It is
explained that now for similar analyses other ways are used. They demand
expensive reactants, special preparation of tests. Also devices on which the
analysis is carried out are expensive.
"The
postgraduate student of Tomsk Polytechnic University Olga Mezentseva develops
an import-substituting method of express determination of contents of meldonium
in an organism of athletes, and also as a part of dietary supplements. The
portable electrochemical analyzer will be many times cheaper than expensive
import analogs", – is said in the message.
The Head of
"Trace contaminant" laboratory of TPU, the research supervisor of the
project Galina Slepchenko told RIA Tomsk that at the base of the Tomsk device –
is an electrochemical method which allows to learn composition of substance
after current impact. This technology is used by TPU scientists for a long time, and is suitable for
identification of many organic substances, for "reshaping" of devices
it is only enough to replace the operating elements – electrodes.

She has
specified, that both electrodes, and reactants for the device cost many times
cheaper than those that are used now: prime cost of the Tomsk device,
allegedly, will be up to 100 thousand rubles – tens times cheaper than analogs.
According
to the university, because of the compactness the device can be located in any
laboratory. Besides, after carrying out the analysis additional data processing
isn't required – they will be highlighted on the special screen of the device.
Athletes of
the whole world, including Russian, have recently appeared in the center of
doping scandal as it found out meldonium in their tests – the substance
normalizing energy metabolism of cells. In particular, the preparation with
meldonium is applied to treatment of heart troubles, vessels of eyes.
