RIA Tomsk. The virtual "walks" in the park developed at Siberian
State Medical University (SSMU) will help to learn to walk to patients with
violations of vestibular system – for example, after a stroke or injuries, the
author of the project Darya Kokovina reported RIA Tomsk.
"This is
virtual environment, which is created especially for rehabilitation of patients
with vestibular violations. A patient puts on glasses of virtual reality, and
his task is to go on a path and not to fall", – she told.

The interlocutor
of the agency explained that the kinekt-camera catches the movements of the
person and creates his avatar in virtual park. At the same time the program
allows to change an inclination of virtual paths and if to use it together with
a special mobile platform for rehabilitation of people with vestibular
frustration, then the tilt angle can be changed also in reality.
According to
her, the closest analog of Tomsk system is created in the Netherlands. However
virtual reality glasses aren't used there, so – there is no effect of full
immersion.
"Violations
(of vestibular system) can be acquired <…> as results of injuries,
stroke, intoxication, various diseases – for example, Parkinson's disease,
various vestibulopathy. Progressing and recidivous (frustration) are barely
treatable", – the interlocutor of the agency added.
