foreign languages of Tomsk State University (TSU) Yana Psayla translated a
novel by Trevor Zara "The Secret Life of Nanna Genoveffa" from
Maltese into Russian; this is the first work translated from national language
of Malta into Russian, it is reported on the website of the higher education
institution.
It is specified that the TSU graduate is the only
translator of works of art from Maltese into Russian and from Russian into
Maltese. She has translated into Maltese 17 works of Vladimir Vysotsky and has
published the first-ever Russian-Maltese and Maltese-Russian phrasebooks in
Malta.
"Yana Psayla worked at the translation of
"The Secret Life of Nanna Genoveffa" for about three months. The
translation of the novel is released by Hudozhestvennaya Literatura publishing
house with a circulation of 1000 copies", – it is said in the message.

It is noted that Trevor Zara is a modern classic of
the Maltese literature. Today more than 100 of his works, including poems,
stories and novels illustrated by him are published. "The Secret Life of
Nanna Genoveffa” got a national award of Malta in 2008. The novel tells about
life of the Maltese woman of the middle of the 20th century.
"Thanks to the live style of the writer decorated
with bright metaphors, the translation has been made very quickly and
easily. <…> I managed to transfer daily expressions and a word-play
precisely thanks to deep immersion to Maltese which I use in everyday
life", – the translator is quoted in the massage.
