System work of all staff of Tomsk State University (TSU) allowed university to
progress in the world ranking Times Higher Education (THE) more than on 100
positions and to show especially good results on quality of education, scientific
and international activity, the vice rector of TSU for network information
activities Vladimir Demkin reported.
Earlier it was reported that
TSU and Tomsk Polytechnic University entered top-15 the leading higher
education institutions of the Russian Federation in 2014 to which the
additional financing is allocated for increase in the international
competitiveness. At least five universities of the Russian Federation shall
enter 100 best higher education institutions of the world by 2020. In the THE
rating of 2016 both higher education institutions were included into group of
501-600 places. Last year TSU got to rating (group 601-800) for the first time.
"In the THE rating of
this year TSU entered the group of 501-600 best world universities, having
risen more than by 100 lines. The greatest contribution to success of TSU in
this rating is noted in the indicators reflecting quality of education,
efficiency of scientific, innovative and international activities", –
Demkin told.

He emphasized that such
considerable advance of university was expected as indicators, which are
estimated in this rating, are considered also by other agencies estimating
world-class universities.
"In THE rating assessment
of activity of higher education institutions is carried out on four indicators:
Teaching, Research, Knowledge transfer, International outlook, reflecting the
main directions of mission of universities", – Demkin explained.
The vice rector added that now
TSU participates in seven world and three Russian rankings of higher education
institutions. At the same time the higher education institution showed similar
breaks also in other lists. For example, in the world ranking QS this year the
university improved the positions more than on 100 points, having risen with
481-490 to the 377th place. It also raised in the ratings QS BRICS (from 44 to
the 43rd place) and QS EECA (from 27 ro the 20th place).
