TOMSK, Oct 5 – RIA
Tomsk. Scientists of Tomsk State University (TSU) together with experts from Canada, the USA, Europe,
China and SB RAS received a megagrant on which they plan to create an
analytical center on age determination of geological objects, the associate
professor of Faculty of Geology and Geography TSU Igor Gertner reported RIA
Tomsk.
According to him, TSU received a megagrant of 90
million rubles for 2017-2020. The analytical cluster which is planned to be
created for these means will allow to study absolute age of rocks and minerals
on the basis of the isotope analysis of minerals of zirconium. In the Russian
Federation such center works only in St. Petersburg though the isotope
geochemistry is very demanded by geologists.
"Now, to make authentic geological maps and to
develop optimum criteria of searches of mineral deposits, it is necessary to
prove model of an origin of a geological object. More exact studying of age of
formation of various mineral associations reflecting the main stages of
accumulation of ore substance acts as the most important element of such
researches", – Gertner told.

He explained that knowing the age of minerals, it is
possible to determine, in particular, the capacity of the field, its structure
and approaches for studying of an object. Besides the solution of scientific
tasks, it will allow to specify the existing geological cards and to define
prospects both of fields already developed, and potentially interesting to
investors.
The scientist specified that for data collection
already existing cards and materials, aerial photography and results of field
researches will be used (including, the analysis of collected samples of
minerals). Within the project it is planned to create the network of scientific
centers which will allow to close the needs for similar researches over the
Urals.
Gertner added that first of all works with geological
objects of Siberia are assumed. The project is implemented by experts of TSU
under the leadership of the famous scientist Richard Ernst (Canada), and also scientists
from the USA, China, Spain and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
